Transforming Lives

ONE STITCH AT A TIME

Cross-stitch is a story, an amazing story of what can happen when women from all walks of life come together to create beauty and transform their lives and those of others.

We are a social enterprise, a cradle, born out of a love for an irresistible hobby that is TIMELESS, PRICELESS and BOUNDLESS

MESSAGE FROM THE PATRON AND FOUNDER

It had always been my desire to have an outstanding hand-made artwork to display in my house. Growing up, I had seen my mother and other women in my village stitch all sorts of handmade products but one was outstanding- cross stitch.

WHAT WE DO

We help underprivileged women in prisons and our community make an income and find new meaning in life

Using a simple needle we help women learn the unique skill of converting threads to marvellous pieces of art. These artworks represent much more than just beauty or art, they tell a story.

BENEFICIARIES STORIES

The participants after having earned an income are introduced to Table Banking through our partner organization, Joyful Women (www.joywo.org).

Table Banking is a group-based funding strategy where members come together to save and borrow loans from their groups. They use the loans to start livelihood activities which generate an income to support themselves and their families.

Meet Celestine

My name is Celestine, 43 years old, from Nandi County, Kabiyet village. I am married and blessed with five children. One day I visited a friend ;Teacher Milcah and I found her stitching something. It looked very interesting and I asked her to teach me. I have done 5 pieces and this has helped me to clear the school fees for my children. I have also bought a cow. I am proud of cross stitching because I can earn an income like an employed person. I am happy and appreciate how CSI has changed my life.
