THE IMPACT OF OUR WORK KEEPS US GOING ON

WE TEACH WOMEN HOW TO STITCH AND MAKE AN INCOME

Our main purpose is to show the marginalized women in our society that there is hope for them. Using the art of stitching we teach them how to convert a needle and thread into an income and a lifestyle for themselves.

The Objectives of the Project are:

  • To provide bridge finance using cross stitch as a skill

  • To enhance social cohesion

  • To enhance psycho-social health

  • To stimulate creativity

  • Social dignity restitution

THE PROCESS

The project has three components;

Training

We train the participants in cross stitch skill. They are provided with the cross stitch kit which consists of the needle, thread and patterned fabric which they then stitch into beautiful tapestries.

Quality Control

We carry out strict quality control during the entire stitching process. Pieces that do not meet the standard are redone. Upon completion, the women are paid and the pieces collected.

Market Linkage

The collected pieces are then framed and sold both locally and internationally by Cross Stitch International. So far the reception of the products has been good and we desire to increase both the range and quantity of products.

BENEFICIARIES

Over 700 women have been trained in different parts of the country

Each has stitched two to three pieces. 80% of our participants are special interest and vulnerable groups being:

  • Prison inmates
  • Persons Living with Disabilities’
  • Persons  recovering from substance abuse

Table Banking is a group-based funding strategy where members come together to save and borrow loans from their groups. They use the loans to start livelihood activities which generate an income to support themselves and their families.
